Executive efforts continue at an accelerated pace for the construction of the Daraw Axis on the Nile River in Aswan Governorate, to be one of the vital transverse axes aimed at connecting the east of the Nile with its west, enhancing the existing road network, and opening new development paths serving productive, industrial, and tourism sectors in the south of the country.
Specifications of Daraw Axis and its Industrial Works
The Daraw Axis extends for an estimated length of about 18 kilometers, with a width of up to 21 meters, comprising two traffic lanes in each direction. The project includes nine diverse industrial works including seven bridges and two tunnels, contributing to the establishment of an integrated axis linking road networks on both banks of the Nile River, starting its route from the eastern agricultural road reaching the western desert road network.
Serving Energy and Agriculture Projects in Aswan
The axis gains extreme strategic importance for supporting sustainable development sectors, as it represents a vital route to serve the Benban solar energy complex, alongside facilitating the movement of equipment, labor, and production requirements for agricultural reclamation projects in west Kom Ombo and surrounding areas, in addition to connecting quarry areas and improving the road network leading to tourist sites in Aswan.
The State's Plan to Develop the Traffic Axis Network
The implementation of this project comes within a broader strategy adopted by the state to reduce distances between Nile axes, lower accident rates, and save fuel consumption. National plans aim to expand the creation of an integrated network of transverse axes nationwide, particularly in Upper Egypt governorates, to connect production areas and service centers with main trade roads and support comprehensive development plans.
