Tender launched for energy storage project development
Power Grid Corporation of India has announced the launch of an online tender for the development of a 187.5 MW/750 MWh battery energy storage system project in the state of Telangana. This strategic project aims to enhance the stability of the national electricity grid and support the more effective integration of renewable energy sources into the public power grid.
Bid details and conditions
The project is officially designated as a package, providing 187.5 MW of power capacity and 750 MWh of energy storage, which is equivalent to four hours of storage at maximum power operation. This tender is being executed through a tariff-based competitive bidding route and is officially classified as a works contract for energy projects.
The company allows qualified firms to view the tender documents through its official online portal, subject to meeting technical and financial requirements and approved pre-qualification criteria. A specific participation fee has been set, while the tender value and earnest money deposit were listed as zero on the digital portal.
Application dates and steps
Applying companies must carefully review the official documents to understand eligibility criteria, technical specifications, commercial requirements, and other important instructions before submitting their final bids. The tender schedule has set dates for the commencement of document sales and submission of digital copies of bids, leading up to the final deadlines for the closure of document sales, bid submission, and the opening of bid envelopes on the same day.
Supporting grid stability and renewable energy
This vital project will add flexible and advanced storage capacities capable of absorbing excess electricity when supplies are abundant, and subsequently discharging it during peak demand periods or when renewable energy generation is low. This approach represents a significant step towards supporting the balancing of the power grid and facilitating sustainable expansion in the integration of wind and solar energy within the energy infrastructure system.
