The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, revealed the allocation of a total financial envelope estimated at 123.4 billion Algerian dinars within the 2027 Finance Bill project, as part of the state's efforts to enhance energy security and keep pace with the requirements of economic and social development in the country. This came during a presentation given by the Minister before the Finance and Budget Committee of the National People's Assembly, where he reviewed the sector's strategy aimed at developing infrastructure and ensuring the continuity of electricity and gas supply.
Strategic plans to enhance energy security
The Minister confirmed that the sector's strategic directions focus on improving public service and expanding electricity and gas connection networks, as the coverage rate for electricity has reached approximately 99%, while the gas connection rate has reached about 80%. Future plans aim to continue supporting isolated areas, the southern regions, and the highlands, in addition to securing energy for major industrial, agricultural, and strategic projects. Efforts are also focused on stabilizing the electrical system during peak summer periods by enhancing production, transmission, and distribution capacities in line with increasing national demand.
The shift towards renewable energy and hydrogen
In the context of the transition towards a green economy, the Minister reviewed the national program for the development of renewable energies, which aspires to reach a production of 15,000 megawatts by 2035. This program relies on strengthening solar energy projects and developing clean hydrogen technologies, which contributes to rationalizing energy consumption and diversifying the national energy mix. He also pointed out that the government aims, through the legislative measures proposed in the 2027 budget, to stimulate investment in new energies, encourage local production aimed at export, and reduce reliance on importing electrical equipment by strengthening national industrial integration.
Budget distribution and development priorities
The financial appropriations proposed in the 2027 budget are distributed to support electricity and gas connection programs, cover expenses for subsidizing the electricity bill in the target areas, and fund energy control programs and support for the newly created provinces. These directions come within the framework of a comprehensive vision aimed at dedicating sustainable development, while strengthening energy partnerships at the regional and international levels, which ensures maximizing the utilization of national resources and achieving added value for the energy sector as a fundamental pillar of the national economy.
