India-based marine technology firm Bluewater Trade Winds has launched an advanced dashboard aimed at providing ship operators with a more comprehensive and accurate view of LNG cargo conditions and vessel performance, in light of challenges and disruptions in maritime shipping.

This step comes as ongoing disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz highlight the increasing risks facing global gas supply chains.

Data Integration and Modern Technologies

The company's new LNG sensor dashboard aggregates data from various equipment manufacturers, allowing operators to monitor cargo and machinery readings through a unified interface. The platform standardizes sensor readings from multiple systems, addressing the inconsistency in how ships record and report operational data.

The dashboard tracks cargo tank pressures, temperatures, and volumes, alongside boil-off gas levels. Operators can also monitor main engine and generator loads, LNG consumption rates, gas combustion unit activities, and re-liquefaction machinery performance, which helps match cargo conditions with the requirements of receiving terminals before the vessel arrives.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency Amidst Navigation Challenges

The company noted that identical cargo and machinery readings previously came from multiple systems, each describing them in its own way; the company has succeeded in merging these readings into a common format that allows operators to seamlessly compare performance across different vessels.

The new dashboard joins the company's existing platform, which includes services such as voyage optimization, emissions monitoring, LNG commercial claim management, and carbon intensity indicator forecasting.

Addressing Supply Chain Disruptions

The launch of this tool comes at a time when LNG shipping operations are facing increasing geopolitical risks and logistical disruptions, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, which represents a vital corridor connecting major energy-exporting countries in the Gulf to international markets. These disruptions have impacted gas transport from Qatar and contributed to uncertainty regarding cargo arrival times.

The impacts have extended to global helium supply chains due to the interruption of Qatari gas production, prompting vessels in the region to resort to ship-to-ship cargo transfers outside the strait. Access to accurate and real-time information on cargo conditions helps support operational planning for buyers and suppliers amidst changing routes and delivery schedules.
