The Ministry of Local Development and Environment announced the sighting of the Short-toed Snake Eagle in the New Valley Governorate, which is one of the endangered species along the autumn migration routes crossing Egyptian lands from the southwest towards the northeast.

Urgent care for the Short-toed Snake Eagle

The necessary veterinary care was provided to the discovered bird through veterinary medicine in the New Valley Governorate, and coordination was made with the Nature Conservation Sector at the ministry to transfer it to the migratory birds treatment center in the Red Sea protectorates. This step aims to complete treatment and take appropriate environmental measures to ensure the bird is returned to its natural environment once its health condition stabilizes.

Intensive plan to protect migration routes

Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, directed the necessity of intensifying monitoring and protection operations during the current autumn migration season, especially on migratory bird paths. In this context, the Environmental Affairs Agency is implementing a comprehensive field plan to deal with any violations related to hunting in bird concentration areas and pathways, coinciding with the launch of the season in which Egypt witnesses the crossing of hundreds of millions of birds.

The importance of biodiversity and ecological balance

The Minister stressed that protecting birds and wild organisms and preserving biodiversity is a fundamental pillar to ensure environmental sustainability. She pointed out the vital role played by raptors in ecosystems, as they contribute to regulating food webs and controlling the numbers of certain organisms, which supports the stability of the natural ecological balance.
