President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed that the Egyptian state continues to bear the largest share of the energy cost, as part of its continuous keenness to alleviate the economic burdens on citizens and support various groups in facing the successive global changes in energy markets.

These trends come in light of the international and domestic economic challenges facing the energy sector, as the government seeks to ensure the stability and security of electricity and fuel supplies for all industrial, service, and consumer activities, without burdening the citizen with the full actual cost of these vital services.

Financial burdens to support the energy sector

The cost of energy is directly reflected in the state's general budget, given the connection of the petroleum and electricity sectors to many imported inputs and high operating costs, especially with the fluctuations in global prices for petroleum products and natural gas. Despite these pressures, the state continues to absorb a large part of these price shocks.

This approach reflects a broader strategy adopted by the state to achieve a balance between maintaining social stability and mitigating inflation, and ensuring the sustainable provision of basic services with high efficiency, which requires flexible management and careful monitoring of the supply and local needs situation.

Supply sustainability and development plans

The relevant authorities in the state are working to develop the infrastructure of the energy sector, enhance consumption efficiency, and expand reliance on renewable and clean energy sources in the medium and long term, to gradually reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower the import bill.

The energy issue remains at the forefront of national economic policy priorities, as it is the backbone of comprehensive development and the basis upon which national and investment projects in various governorates rest, making its provision at appropriate prices a fundamental pillar of economic and social stability.
