President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized that securing Egypt's energy needs requires massive and continuous investments in production plants, transmission networks, and distribution, pointing out that the state bears the largest burden of the actual cost of energy provided to citizens in light of geopolitical challenges and rising global prices.

The President's remarks came during his participation in a dialogue session as part of the Egypt 2026 Forum, in the presence of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and a number of officials and energy sector experts, where government efforts to develop electricity infrastructure and enhance the national grid's capacity to absorb renewable energy production were reviewed.

Efforts to Develop Infrastructure and Natural Gas

Discussions during the session addressed the executive steps to raise the efficiency of supplying developmental projects, alongside efforts exerted to halt the decline in natural gas production and restore its growth rates, and enhance liquefied gas reception capabilities to meet the needs of various vital sectors in the country in light of international and regional disruptions and supply chains.

The discussion also touched upon the proactive measures taken by the state to mitigate the repercussions of global crises, and reviewed plans for dealing with the energy sector since 2014 to confront previous structural challenges that faced the Egyptian market.

Financing Challenges and Time Required for Exploration

The President explained that providing the necessary financing is one of the most prominent obstacles in implementing infrastructure projects, stressing that the establishment of generation plants is accompanied by wide requirements including distribution networks and command and control stations, as well as the fact that energy search and exploration operations require many long years and auctions that may extend for years before bearing actual fruit.
